March was a profitable month, though only just, and this was important leading on from February having been our first losing month.
The month started well enough with five bets on the 1st of the month yielding a profit of £46 with a 9/2 winner in KRUGER PARK at Newbury, and places at 12/1 and 14/1.
However, our next winner wasn't until 23 selections later when two winners came in at 11/2 QUORNOFAMONDAY at Naas and 13/2 SHOESHINE BOY at Kelso on the 10th March, along with another place at 9/1 which put us back in the green for the month.
During those nine days and twenty-three selections, there were five places to soften the blow on the bank, including a 22/1 place for MACK THE MAN on the 8th, who was only beaten by the favourite and was miles clear of the rest of the field.
We went into the Cheltenham festival on -£49 and came out of it on -£107 having only found one winner CHIANTI CLASSICO at 7/1 and one place at 14/1
It was a hard luck story at the festival really as ASIAN MASTER, advised at 25/1 just lost 3rd on the line so was unplaced and KITTYS LIGHT drifted to 40/1 and came 7th with 6 places available, both bets returning £0 when a place would have been a healthy return.
The bad luck continued as places came in regularly but no winners;
SERIOUS CHALLENGE missed out on a place by a nose on the 18th at 28/1 but there were places at 28/1 and 25/1 mid to late March, WOVEN was beaten in a photo at Doncaster 15/2 advised.
We eventually had a nice 7/1 winner at Hereford on the 27th in the form of JACK DOYEN, but the absolute highlight of the month came on the 29th March when TALIS EVOLVERE got up on the line at 33/1 at Newcastle and all our close calls that had just lost or just been unplaced were settled by the gambling gods in one go.
We finished the month on £61 profit to £10 each way stakes but I do think with so many close calls I was happy to get out of March in the green and surely things will slot in for us sooner rather than later for a nice big juicy month.
